I hope that the first week and a half of summer has found you well. The late ending to the school year has compressed some of the summer activities into a smaller window for most of us. With that said, the boys have hit the ground running. I just wanted to pass along an update on the exciting things happening with the program and taking place down the road as we head into our 4th of July dead period.

For our summer program, the boys are working out four days a week, Monday through Thursday. A couple of years ago, the MHSAA changed the policy to allow up to 15 non-mandatory practices throughout the summer, so we are taking full advantage of them. The boys work out in the weight room or condition two days per week and practice on the other two.

We have split the practice each week into one day of offense and one day of defense work.

The summer program has been well received, with 20 different student athletes making appearances so far. Of those 20 athletes, 10 have attended at a rate of 75% or higher, and three have had 100% attendance. We also recently had two student athletes attend “Big Man Camp” at Michigan Tech.

With so many things going on and the later end to the school year, those are great numbers. I expect those numbers to rise in July as we get past the 4th of July holiday and settle into summer.

We have some exciting things planned for July as we resume the summer program on July 7. On July 16, 23, and 30, we will be hosting outside area schools for our annual 5-on-5 passing scrimmages. Those will start at 6 p.m.

As always, it is never too late to join the summer program. For information, reach out to any member of the coaching staff.
