Baby Wilow Eve Cripe, born Sunday, February 23, 2025, was taken too soon from this world on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at U.P. Health Systems-Marquette surrounded by her loving family.

Baby Wilow came into this world and blessed her entire family with a smile that would melt your heart. In her exciting week of life, she touched the hearts of all those she encountered. Wilow had an amazing personality and mesmerized her family with her facial expressions and calm demeanor. Our little princess had an attitude that said she was ready to take on the world or at least ready to give her cousin Matthew a run for his money! Wilow Eve will forever be loved, cherished and missed by her family and friends.

Wilow Eve is survived by her mother, Irelyn Goudreau, and father, Jayden Cripe. Also surviving are her maternal grandparents Denvir Johnson and Greg Goudreau, paternal grandmother Sara Welcome, great-grandparents Laura Willis (Auntie Merri), Bill and Tina Goudreau and Jill Weavers, Loving aunts and uncles Isabell, Hayden, Jackson and Samson, and Abby and Aiden; many great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends.

Wilow Eve is preceded in death by her maternal great-grandfather Ivan Johnson and uncle Gregory Jr.

A Celebration of Life for Wilow Eve will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 2:00 pm, at the American Legion Post #74 in Newberry.

Paul M. Dake, MD
September 27, 1951 – February 26, 2025

Paul M. Dake, MD, died Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his home in Pinconning, Michigan.

Born September 27, 1951, he grew up in Newberry, Michigan as the eldest of ten. He graduated from Newberry High School in 1969 and went on to Michigan State University for undergraduate and medical school. He moved to Saginaw, Michigan to complete his residency in Family Medicine. He was a lifelong learner with a passion for teaching, and spent many years training the next generations of family physicians through Wayne State and Michigan State Universities. In recent years, he wrote the column “Doctor…Why?” as a way to share his wealth of medical knowledge with the community.

In 1982, Paul married Kathleen Ruthko and had two daughters. He set up a robust Family Medicine practice in Saginaw, Michigan where he cared for patients of all ages in addition to delivering dozens of children at the local hospital. In 1990, Paul married Kay Huebner at a brunch ceremony in Chesaning, Michigan, surrounded by family and friends. They created a love and laughter-filled life together for nearly 35 years of marriage.

Throughout his life, Paul loved many things from cars to movies to music. He restored a 1973 Thunderbird and drove it in the Woodward Dream Cruise. He was an avid movie buff, who enjoyed any big blockbuster. Paul was lucky enough to be married to a fellow musician and together they frequented music festivals and jam sessions.

Later in life, Paul took his family history of tree farming a step further and began woodworking. He was an active member of the Michigan Woodworkers Guild, founder of the Mid Michigan Wood Working Club, and enjoyed teaching woodworking skills for the local 4H Club. In his retirement, Paul was often “making sawdust” with family and friends, including several works for donation to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Emerald Dake and Ruth Janet Dake, his brother, Neil Dake, and his daughter, Whitney Michelle Dake.

Survivors include his wife, Kay C. Huebner Dake, his daughter, Tessa (Brian) Dake, step-daughter, Cynthia (Timothy) Tsiang, and six grandchildren. He is survived by Deborah (Peter) LaBlance, Cyndi (Randy) Potter, Myrven (Deanna) Dake, Marlene (Jon) Glaesmann, Rebecca (Fred) Evans, Thomas Dake, Paula (Mark) Jordan, and Pamela Dake.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at noon at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pinconning. A gathering of family and friends will follow.

Karen D. Stumbaugh
October 11, 1942 – February 28, 2025

Karen De’Ann Stumbaugh was born to the late Marion and Edward Stumbaugh on October 11, 1942. Karen passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at her home in Newberry, Michigan.

Karen had six children and is survived by Mary Smutek, Anna Maclean, Edward Maclean, Pauline Maclean, Deanna Maclean and Joel Pounds; grandchildren Brandon Larkin, Bill Smutek, Brandy Blakely and Faith Smutek, Fawn Auge and Amber Davidson, Kegan Maclean, Douglas Maclean and Bailee Maclean, Angelica Olsen, Brittany Steward, and Bradley Williams. Karen has one surviving sister, Estella Shumate. She has many great grandchildren that she loved very much.

She is preceded in death by her eldest son Charles Maclean Jr, eldest grandchild Marion Maclean, and her eldest great grandchild Janelle Ann Marie Steward, along with her brothers Richard Stumbaugh, Robert Stumbaugh, and sister Verna Shumate.

Karen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a passion for bird watching and a huge love for animals. She loved playing cards and games with her family and enjoyed fishing.

Services will be held at Farmington Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church, 29831 W. 10 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48336 on March 17, 2025 at 11am. Burial Services and Final Resting Place at 3pm on March 17, 2025, at Glen Eden Memorial Park, 35667 Eight Mile W., Livonia, MI 48152.

Gary Gene Hilden
August 24, 1951 – March 5, 2025

If you knew this man, you loved this man!

Gary Gene Hilden, 73, of Newberry, died Wednesday morning, March 5, 2025 at U.P. Health Systems-Marquette.

Born August 24, 1951 in Owosso, son of the late Clinton “Sam” and Donna (Pruden) Hilden, Gary was employed as an auto body technician for several years, even into his retirement, painting many cars over the years. Gary also took a break as a technician and was employed as a logger for several years.

Gary enjoyed fishing, Friday night billiard games with his best friends and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed harassing his granddaughter Kallie for not always having cookies made for him.

In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Hilden.

Survivors include his children Tara Becker of Newberry, Cambi Bergey of Dickinson, North Dakota and Becky Becker; two children from a previous marriage, Michael Hilden and Brandi Wright; grandchildren Brayden, Kallie and Bryce Arneth all of Newberry, Justin, Emily and Mike all of North Dakota and Andrew, Tehya, Kenna, Ashlynn and Cash; sisters Teresa Bergey and Brenda (Wendall) Wing all of Marion; several nieces and nephews.

Per request, cremation services were accorded. Graveside services along with a Celebration of Life for Gary will be held this spring of 2025, with a date and time to be announced.
