Paul Stephen Scholtus went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 2, 2025. He was born on February 25, 1958, one of seven children to parents John and Mary Scholtus (Pelletier), both of Newberry, MI. He was raised in Newberry, MI and graduated from Newberry High School.
During his life he worked as an apprentice machinist at Industra Products in Fort Wayne, IN. He did not like working indoors, so he moved to Lansing and worked in carpentry and building with Richard Freed Carpentry. Paul went to Bradenton, FL and took a 10-week school of ministry, then moved back to Newberry, MI and worked at Blanchard Construction and Community Action. He then started to work for Brothers Construction building and remodeling, and when laid off Paul worked for Klaty’s Plumbing, Heating, and Electrical and traveled the country working on military bases doing finishing work.
Paul started his own business, Scholtus Construction, in 1996, building beautiful homes, cabins, decks and any home improvements around the eastern Upper Peninsula. Paul went to Israel 6 times to a Biblical Tamar Park in southern Israel, building cabinets and construction work. He traveled throughout Israel with the Blossoming Rose and made many friends. Paul traveled to Paris, climbed the Eiffel Tower, and saw the Mona Lisa.
Paul donated his time and skill to several churches around Newberry and assisted building down in Florida due to hurricanes. Paul loved his family, friends and his dogs through his life. He built his own home with family, enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, and was always available for family and friends when needed. He retired due to health issues in December 2022.
Paul is survived by brother Ronald (Debra), Fort Wayne, IN and sister Patricia, Newberry, MI, sister-in-laws Sandra and Louise, brother-in-law Richard Freed, and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
