A man was arrested after breaking into a room at the Paradise Lakefront Lodge, stealing approximately $3,040 in cash, and then later resisting arrest.
On September 3, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a reported theft at the Paradise Lakefront Lodge which occurred the previous evening. The investigation found that a male suspect had unlawfully entered a hotel room and stole approximately $3,040 in cash.
Following a preliminary investigation and review of surveillance footage, the suspect was identified as a California man working seasonally in the Paradise area.
The trooper located the suspect and informed him he was under arrest. The suspect resisted arrest and fled on foot. After the trooper gave commands for the suspect to stop, the trooper deployed a department-issued TASER, temporarily incapacitating the suspect and allowing the trooper to take him into custody.
The suspect was evaluated for minor injuries sustained after he resisted arrest and fell to the ground, following the TASER deployment. The suspect was medically cleared and lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.
On September 4, 2026, 35-year-old Antonio Murphy was arraigned in the 91st District Court on one count of Home Invasion 1st Degree, Larceny in a Building, and Assault/Resist a Police Officer. His bond was set at $10,000 cash with tether and other standard conditions. He is next due in court on September 17, 2026. The defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
Through additional investigative efforts, the stolen money was recovered and will be returned to the victims.
