The final week of the high school football season is already here, and the Engadine Eagles will play one of their biggest games of the year at home on Friday. The Eagles will welcome the Brimley Bays to the Frank A. Salzeider field to wrap up the season a decades old rivalry matchup.

The game is known as the Weather Bowl, a tribute to the often-strange weather the two teams usually played through in their traditional late season matchups when playing 11 player football as members of the original EUP Football Conference.

The week 9 showdown between the Eagles and Bays will solely be all about bragging rights and the Weather Bowl trophy. Engadine will enter the finale with a season record of 3-5 overall and are 2-4 in Bridge Alliance play as part of the conference’s smaller school Valley Division. Brimley did not play last week and enters with a 3-4 mark during a season when they missed multiple games. The Bays will try to end their roller coaster on again off again season on a high note. They carry an 0-5 record in the larger school Straits Division.

Both teams had to overcome injuries this season. One big key for Engadine will be finding ways to score. In their three wins the Eagles offense has caught fire, scoring an average of 38.6 points per game. They will have to lean heavily on multi-dimensional athlete Coleman Loebach, who is looking to secure a spot on the All Conference team and position himself for postseason honors. The Eagles will also look to lean on their line who face a strong and quick Brimley front. Defensively the Eagles will have to contend with a great athlete in Bays QB and linebacker Cooper Jones.

The 2026 edition of the Weather Bowl will be streamed live on the Newberry News Sports and EUP Sports Network Facebook pages. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. It will also be Parents and Senior Night for Engadine.
