It has been a busy and productive summer in the Village of Newberry, and here are some important updates.
Downtown stump removal has started. Please don’t park on M-123 overnight. Portions of the sidewalk around the tree cuts have had to be removed. Please use caution when navigating areas already impacted by the removal. The missing concrete sections will be redone as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience with us on this important project.
The square space where the trees were planted will remain open ground, the metal grates will be reinstalled. Those spaces will serve as rain gardens to assist with storm water runoff. Currently, there is no plan to replant trees. Flower pots will be relocated onto the grates once the grates are reinstalled.
MDOT is working on replacing disintegrating tactile plates at six locations on ADA crosswalk curb cuts along M-123 between McMillan and Helen Street. This is part of the resurfacing project funded completely by MDOT.
There will be no ordinance committee this month.
The Infrastructure Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant storage tank bond has closed and funds will be available to reimburse current expenses soon. Site clearing for the new tank will begin mid-to-late September.
The portions of E. Truman, E. John, E. Helen and Handy streets impacted by the sewer line replacements earlier this summer will be paved over in the next few weeks.
A tire recycling event will take place near the end of September. Watch for more info on this.
Also, an appliance recycling event will take place behind the school on September 26. This is run by Energy United, the new green energy program that all residents are contributing to via their electric bill. More info will be posted soon
