Tuesday, October 11 marks the return of Dig Pink, one of the biggest nights of the local sports year. The JV and varsity volleyball teams from Newberry and Engadine will once again unite for one night, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer treatment and education as part of the annual Dig Pink event.
This year’s Dig Pink showdown is the 14th annual in the series between the two rival teams. Each year, the two communities and two schools rally behind their teams as part of a night of honor and celebration to help those in need the most.
The local Dig Pink event is part of a nationwide initiative each October that sees similar games and events featuring high school and college programs. Dig Pink was started as part of the SideOut Foundation’s mission to use the game of volleyball to raise money and pay tribute to patients as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The 14th Annual Dig Pink event will feature the JV and Varsity Volleyball matches, as well as a special program put on by the players from both sides. There will also be a bake sale, special raffles and prizes, and a live auction of special Dig Pink edition game balls signed by both teams. Fans can also participate in the fun and help raise money by purchasing a Dig Pink T Shirt, which are on sale now at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, and Newberry and Engadine school offices, and at the Newberry and Engadine branches of Tahquamenon Area Credit Union.
The special event starts at 5:30 p.m., and both communities are encouraged to come out and help support the local fight against breast cancer.
The games and event will be streamed live exclusively by M-123FM and the Newberry News on their Facebook pages.
