Henry A. Ketola

January 1, 1936 – September 19, 2021

Henry Armand Ketola, 85, of McMillan, died Sunday afternoon September 19, 2021 at U.P. Health Systems-Marquette.

Born January 1, 1936 in Seney, son of the late Emil and Pauline (Swisher) Ketola, Henry was a 1954 graduate of Newberry High School.  On  December 10, 1960, Henry married the former Delores Ackley in Germfask.

On October 25, 1961, Henry enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on August 8, 1962 and continued in the Army Reserves until January 5, 1965.

Henry owned and operated Ketola Service in Seney and was also employed at the Schoolcraft County Road Commission for several years until his retirement as foreman in 1995.  Henry was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and his hobbies included hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms, ATV riding, collecting stamps and coins, going to camp and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his daughter Dianna Ketola in 1979, his wife Delores in 1990; sister Joyce Bell; brother-in-law’s Francis Malindzak, Edwin Harvey, Robert Bell, William Bednar, Jim Boggs and Bernard Carr; sister-in-law Gail Ketola.

Survivors include his son Ed (Robin) Ketola of McMillan; grandchildren Robert (Jessica) Ketola of Elmira, Chad Ketola of McMillan and Samantha (T.J. Blakely) Ketola of McMillan; great-grandchildren Kristin Ketola, Tane Blakely, Emma Ketola, Hailey Ketola and Kennedy Blakely; siblings Virginia Harvey of Calvary, GA, Emil “Mark” (Donna) Ketola of Milan, Sue Boggs of Upland, CA, Selma Bednar of Racine, WI, Helga (Omer) Doran of Germfask, John (Ellen) Ketola of Tecumseh, Paul (Regina Beert) Ketola of Pinckney, Karen Carr of Houghton, Janice (Jerry) Galor of Newberry, Linda (Russell) Engman of Muskogee, OK, Kenneth (Diane) Ketola of Tecumseh and Nancy (Paul) Magnusson of Germfask; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday September 25, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Germfask.  Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the church with Pastor Kyle Kuehl officiating.  Interment with military rites conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #74 will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
