Esther Eva Fergin

Longtime area resident, Esther Eva Fergin, 99, passed away Sunday morning, July 25, 2021, at the residence of her eldest son, Glenn, and the care of North Woods Home Nursing. Born February 27, 1922 in Newberry to the late Adolph and Elsie (Fillman) Marcus. Esther was a high school graduate and was employed as an Attendant Nurse at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center for twenty-six years until her retirement in December 1983. On October 12, 1940, Esther married the late Earl E. Fergin. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Newberry and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine. Esther enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers baseball games, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Young and the Restless. She was an avid crafter, a lover of the polka, and member of the Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with family and friends and singing with the Don Pablo Orchestra. In addition to her parents, Esther is preceded in death by her husband Earl, siblings Mervin and Geraldine Marcus, daughter-in-law Ruthie Fergin, and brother-in-law Alfred Fergin. She is survived by her sons Glenn and Gordon (Janet) Fergin, sister-in-law Betty Fergin, her five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday, July 30, 2021, with a viewing at 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine. Services celebrating the life of Esther will follow at 4:00 pm at the church with Pastor Kyle Kuehl officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
