Robin Lee Whitman

Robin Lee Whitman, 62, of Newberry, died Sunday May 23, 2021 at his residence. Born June 3, 1958 in Pontiac, son of the late Raleigh and Dorothy (Marks) Whitman, he was a 1980 graduate of Newberry High School.  Robin was employed as a millwright at the Louisiana Pacific Corp. for 27 years until his retirement.  Robin loved anything about the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman and spending time with his family.  Robin was an amazing, caring and loving man, putting others first and always was an encouragement to others. In addition to his parents, Robin is preceded in death by his infant sister Jean Whitman. Survivors include his loving wife, the former Irene McNeil, whom he married August 4, 1979 in Newberry; children Stacey (Jason) Cameron of Newberry, Jason Whitman of Newberry, Stephen Whitman of Oscoda and Corey Whitman of Newberry; grandchildren Drake, Aly, Devan, David, Taylar, Autumn and Levi; siblings Cindy Margheim of California, Janice (Eric) Endsley of Newberry, Theresa (Scott) Mitchell of Munising, Roy Whitman of Newberry, Ray (Monica) Whitman of Standish and Joanie Whitman of Newberry; nieces and nephews. An outdoor gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Robin will be held at a later date.

Shirley Ann (Stokes) Jenkins

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Ann Jenkins (nee Stokes), 86, formerly of Seney passed away Saturday morning May 15, 2021 at the Hospice House of Shiawassee County in Owosso, Michigan. Shirley was the oldest of seven children to Donald Sr. and Rose (Dalton) Stokes of Newberry, Michigan.  Shirley attended Newberry High School until she married at the age of 16 to John Jenkins and had four children. Being a mother and wife were her most important jobs. Shirley received her nursing aide certificate and started working at a rest home in Lakefield Township, the former Luce County Annex and Helen Newberry Joy Hospital for 25 years.  She then went into foster care in Grand Marais and, after eight years, took a break and lived in Fern Park, Florida returning to foster care in Seney, Michigan retiring in her mid-seventies.  She loved to work with people and was always a caregiver to her family and to her clients.  After retirement, Shirley was happy to spend time with her family travelling between her daughter’s homes and her granddaughter’s homes spending time with them.  She was always happy, easy going and loved to help. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband John Jenkins Sr., son Johnny Jenkins Jr., daughters Charlotte Paul and Jeaneen Smith, grandson Gary Laffrey, great-great-grandson Dechlan Wintjen, in-laws Hazel (Rome) Jenkins, siblings Donald (Kathleen) Stokes and James Stokes, brother-in-law’s Lloyd Roach, John Quinn, Ronald Schnurer, Floyd Groh and Max Bennett; sister-in-law Dorothy Bennett. Survivors include her daughters Joan (Claude) Everhart of Alberta, Canada and Rebecca (Charles) Clark of Webster, Florida; son-in-law Greg Smith of Debary, Florida; siblings Barbara (Kermit) Groat of Pace, Florida, Emma (Leon) Bowerman of Lake Isabella, Michigan, Lily Schnurer of Melborn, Florida and Harold (Randy) Stokes of Newberry; sister-in-law’s Teresa Stokes of Portage, Michigan, Gladys Roach of Newberry and Donna Quinn of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; grandchildren Douglas Everhart, Joshua Everhart, Coty Everhart, Christle (Ward) Clark, John (Steffanie) Clark, Sam (Crystal) Laffrey, Ben Smith, Greg (Kierstyn) Smith and Jason Smith; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; former son-in-law’s Robert Clark, Roger Paul and Gary Laffrey Sr. A gathering of family and friends will take place Thursday May 20, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Seney Township Hall. Bill Williams

Bill Williams, 84, of Newberry went into the presence of his Lord Thursday morning May 20, 2021. Bill was born December 16, 1936 in Hulbert, Michigan, son of James and Evelyn Williams. The family moved to McMillan when he was two, and he lived there until after high school.  He then moved to Newberry where he remained the rest of his life.  He graduated from Newberry High School in 1955.  Following his graduation, Bill worked at various jobs and, on February 4, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army serving until his honorable discharge on March 28, 1962 attaining the rank of Sergeant.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Newberry and was employed at Rahilly Motors as Parts Manager for 39 years until his retirement. Bill was an avid golfer in the summers and spent the winters working on jigsaw puzzles. He loved watching sports, especially the local school activities. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church serving as trustee for many years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Don and Marvin.  Survivors include his loving wife, the former Shirley Dixon, who he married on September 24, 1971, in McMillan; children Dennis (Kate) Dixon of Bozeman, MT, Vicki (Cal) Olson of Grand Rapids, MI, Stephanie (Brad) Bouchard of Manistique, MI; grandchildren Aaron Lyke, Kassandra (Aaron) Van Egmund, Dillon Dixon, Kara (Rob Masick) Lyke, Adrianna (Codey) Hittle, Mykaella Bouchard; two great-grandchildren Aaliyah Masick and Dewey Hittle; siblings Carley (Betsy) Williams of McMillan, MI, Viola (Fred) Dill of Marysville, MI, Dennis (Kathy) Williams of McMillan, MI, Arthur (Lois) Williams of Dundee, MI, Jim (Sue) Williams of Kinross, MI, Susy (Mitch) Edge of Soperton, GA, Paul (Bev) Williams of McMillan, MI, Nita Patterson of Lake Alfred, FL, Chuck (Linda) Williams of Farmington Hills, MI; sisters-in-law Kate Williams of Bruce, WI, and Kaye (Loren) Davis of Bruce, WI; half sisters Patti Bucierka of Hartford, WI, Evelyn (Tom) Carlson of Crossville, TN, Penny (Paul) Delgado of Medical Lake, WA, Shirley Tymasz of McMillan, MI, and Midge Harlow of Manistique, MI, along with many dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday June 1, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Northstar Baptist Church in McMillan with Pastors Paul Williams and Jon Michaels officiating.
