A temporary fuel shortage is impacting Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, due to disruptions in fuel deliveries caused by the earlier closure of the Mackinac Bridge. The bridge was shut down earlier today as a precaution after falling ice from a recent winter storm created hazardous conditions.
As a result, fuel supplies at local gas stations have become limited, with some stations running out of fuel. However, as of 7:04 PM, the Mackinac Bridge has reopened, allowing fuel deliveries to resume.
“Michigan State Police (MSP) are working closely with local officials and fuel providers to expedite deliveries and restore normal fuel availability as quickly as possible,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District Public Information Officer.
“We recognize the inconvenience this may cause, but we want to reassure residents that this is a short-term issue. Contingency plans are in place to ensure law enforcement and emergency services remain fully operational.”
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as fuel supplies stabilize. In the meantime, residents are encouraged to conserve fuel when possible and limit non-essential travel until normal supply levels are restored.
