The Village of Newberry will begin the removal of tree stumps and subsequent concrete repair along Newberry Avenue, spanning from E. Truman Street to Railroad Street, starting Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 11 p.m. The project is expected to last several weeks.

To prioritize community safety and minimize disruption to daytime business operations, crews will work exclusively during midnight shifts. This overnight schedule will significantly reduce impacts on local vehicle traffic and pedestrian safety.

Important notice for downtown businesses & residents:
• All business owners along the impacted blocks are directed to clear the sidewalks in front of their establishments.
• Please remove all outdoor merchandise, signs, displays, and personal property before the 11:00 PM start time on Wednesday.
– Sidewalks should remain clear of items until further notice.
• Village public works staff will manage the relocation of municipal property, including public benches, flowerpots, and garbage cans, as needed to facilitate the work.

The Village appreciates the cooperation of our business owners and thanks all residents for their patience during these necessary downtown infrastructure improvements.
