Grossman Forestry Company will be acquired by Green Timber Consulting Foresters Inc. in a move that will increase services and opportunities across territory that will now cover the entire Upper Peninsula, the northern lower peninsula, and northern Wisconsin.

Gerald (Jerry) Grossman, president of Grossman Forestry, will still maintain his business presence in Newberry and retain his staff and clients. The most obvious change will be the name of the company, which will carry the Green Timber title after the anticipated closing date on January 1, 2025.

“There’ll be no changes to the services we provide or changes to our Newberry office,” Grossman said. “It’s just a win-win situation. Win for our clients, win for our staff. We’ll be part of a bigger company and can offer more services.”

Grossman said he approached Green Timber with the business idea.

“It’s a very, very good company and a great fit,” Grossman said. “They provide a lot of the same services in the western U.P. that we do in the Eastern U.P.”

Grossman describes forest management as a long-term investment in clean water, clean air, recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat and forest products. It is often a multi-generational pursuit, and forestry offices build on prior generations.

There has been a forestry office in Newberry well before Grossman Forestry Company, going back to Bob McCraney, Pete Grieves, and Bob Caouette. Grossman took over the business from Caouette in January 1991. After “passing the torch” to Green Timber, Grossman will continue to run the Newberry office for Green Timber Consulting Foresters and looks forward to continuing the legacy of quality forest management in the region.

Grossman Forestry has been serving landowners in the eastern Upper Peninsula & northern Lower Peninsula since 1991, while Green Timber has been tending to forests of the western Upper Peninsula & northern Wisconsin since 2001.

Together, the two companies will manage more than 550,000 acres of forest in their new combined territory. The collective staff of 17 professional foresters has more than 200 years of experience in forest management, timber harvest administration, GIS, forest inventory, forest modeling and analysis, and certification auditing.

Justin Miller, President of Green Timber, said he is excited to join forces with Grossman Forestry.

“The combination of our two teams will bring clients expanded expertise and opportunities through a broader network of land management services while offering efficiencies with offices spread across the Upper Peninsula,” Miller said.

Existing clients at both companies will maintain their current account managers with the added benefit of the expanded capacity and expertise the partner company offers.

“As a group, we will continue to meet and exceed the goals and objectives of each client while growing our knowledge base with expanded forest management opportunities,” Grossman said.
