Curtis Public Library will host a two-day Grand Opening celebration Wednesday and Thursday, May 22 and 23. Michigan State Librarian, Randy Riley, is coming as guest of honor. Although Curtis Public Library was originally established in 1971, the library was re-established in the past year as an independent township library. In a letter from the Library of Michigan dated March 1, 2024, Randy Riley congratulated Portage Township on establishing the 397th public library in Michigan!
Everyone is invited to the Grand Opening celebration! Wednesday, there will be a “Meet Our State Librarian” Open House from 1 – 4 p.m. That evening, there will be live music with Dennis Peacock and Gary Bender, and appetizers with our State Librarian from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday morning, Randy Riley will stop in the library for coffee at 10 a.m. There will be giveaways, refreshments, and fun at Curtis Public Library all day, both days! Please join us for this special celebration!
Colorful new furniture is out on the library deck. The beautiful Polywood rockers, chairs, and tables are a gift from the Ludlow families, honoring decades of friendship between their families and the Luft/Hand families. Thank you, Ludlows!
Curtis Public Library recently received a very generous donation of $5,000 from the estate of Kim Bushey. Bushey was the former owner of Kim’s Tally Ho in Curtis. She requested that her estate be used to benefit the Curtis community, and the library was one of the grateful recipients.
The library also thanks everyone for the books, puzzles, movies, items, and cash they give to the library.
Tahquamenon Area Schools Public Library patrons are welcome to use Curtis Public Library while their library is being renovated, or anytime. There are no non-resident fees at Curtis, and the check-out policies are the same as Tahquamenon’s.
