The November Village of Newberry Council meeting will begin with a public hearing to discuss an overview of the proposed zoning ordinance which may be adopted by the board to regulate the use of land within the village limits.
The matter was discussed at the October meeting of the council on Tuesday, October 15. All members of the board were present, and only one member of the public attended.
Zoning ordinances are laws or regulations enacted by local governments to control land use and development in a specific area.
“The zoning ordinance was put together with guidance from Beckett and Raeder and went through several stages with the zoning steering committee and went in front of the planning commission,” said Village Manager Allison Watkins. “Next month, you [village council] will decide if you want to vote to approve it, and it will be law, or if you feel it needs more work, you can send it back to the planning commission.”
The November meeting of the board is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19 at 6 p.m. at the Village chambers in the Water and Light building.
An overview of the proposed zoning ordinance and its impact on the community will take place at the hearing and community members will be given the opportunity to comment on the matter.
Copies of the proposed ordinance are available for public inspection at the Village office or online at villageofnewberry.com.
Finally, the board went into closed session to discuss strategy for negotiating the union collective bargaining agreement.
After reconvening in open session, the council voted to approve the union bargaining agreement.
