As has been tradition for the past several years, the Newberry Fire Department is busy again this holiday season spreading holiday cheer. Last week, members of the Fire Department spent time delivering gifts throughout the community.

To start things off, the members visited the Headstart and Early Headstart classes to deliver gifts of warm winter hats and mittens to each of the 37 kids.

Later that evening the members were busy visiting a few families within the community, which included a local Veteran and two additional families.

Raffles held at the annual Fire Department Christmas Party raise proceeds used to buy hats and mittens for the Headstart program and the gifts that are delivered to locals families and a Veteran. This is an internal department raffle that the Fire Department members, retirees, and spouses purchase tickets for on the night of the Christmas party.

Once again, Shannon and Terry Manty generously built, painted, and donated a set of special FD-themed cornhole boards which were the main raffle prize for the night.

This Wednesday, the Newberry Fire Department will be visiting Tahquamenon Area Schools to give candy canes to each student, staff, and faculty member to spread holiday cheer on the last day of school before Christmas break starts.

One final activity the members are planning for the holiday season is still in the planning stages, but is expected to take place on Christmas Day.

All of these activities that we partake in around the holiday season are our way of giving back to the community that supports us every day. If we can use our efforts to brighten someone’s day around this special time of the year, that’s a pretty cool thing to be able to do. We would like to say Thank You and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!
