The 22nd Anniversary of the Historic Photo Show sponsored by the Tahquamenon Education Foundation (TEF) will be held in the basement of the old Community Building on July 3 and 4.

The display will be open from 7-9 p.m. on July 3 and reopens after the parade on July 4 until 2 p.m.

The annual event changed venues to coordinate more closely with the activities at the Newberry Fire Department on the 4th.

There have been several recent “finds” made by Sterling McGinn, and this show will be one of the best yet.

Sterling will set up the usual hundreds of photos provided by Jim Dwyer and himself. Among the new “finds” include a view from the stands during a 1907 baseball game between Newberry and the Upper Peninsula Hospital for the Insane.

A previous photo showed the people in the stands. This one shows the horse-drawn wagons that arrived at the game.

Another great new one shows the crowd at Sherman Park at the end of one of the early 1900s parades.

The new acquisitions will be displayed at the beginning of the show for those who have been to many of the previous ones.

We hope that legendary photo show attender, Ann (Rahilly) Nelson, will continue to be present at all of the events. John and Susan Bergman need to provide documentation that they didn’t miss one!

One of the “underrated” aspects of the shows is the camaraderie that occurs between people who haven’t seen each other for decades and are able to reunite and share thoughts about the photos!

There is no charge to enter, however, donations to the Tahquamenon Education Foundation are appreciated.
