The Newberry JV and Varsity Football teams will be one step closer to game action this week when they host an official preseason scrimmage exhibition on Friday.

The series of scrimmages will put the Indians in full speed and contact situations head-to-head against opponents for the first time as they prepare for the season opener Friday August, 30. Friday’s action will welcome JV and varsity teams from Ishpeming, St. Ignace, and Rudyard.

Coach Zach Clickner is in his first season as the Indians varsity head coach, and after leading a strong off-season program, the Indians have continued gaining momentum in their opening week of fall practices. The scrimmage will give coaches at both the JV and Varsity levels to test themselves against different opponents and styles of play.

The preseason scrimmage will begin Friday morning at 11 a.m. and is open to the public. Varsity scrimmages will be played on the main game field and JV scrimmages will be played on the side practice fields. The Newberry Quarterback Club will staff a concession stand; proceeds will help the organization assist the football program.
