Girls basketball teams start their postseason tournaments tonight, and a local rivalry will highlight semifinal action on opening night. Newberry and Engadine are both part of Division 4 District 101, and they meet tonight for a spot in the championship round scheduled for Friday. The Lady Indians finished the regular season with 24-6 record, and earned the number-one seed in this year’s District Tournament. Engadine, at 4-18 was randomly paired with the rival Lady Indians for the semifinal matchup. Newberry and Engadine go head-to-head tonight. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
Brimley, sitting in second seed, will host Rudyard at the Karl Parker Gymnasium in tonight’s other semifinal game. Brimley won both games against the Lady Bulldogs in the regular season and will try to sweep the season series on Friday.
The location for Friday’s Division 4 District 101 Championship game will be announced following tonight’s semifinal games.
