The Engadine Eagles put up one of their most impressive football performances in recent memory, travelling to Fife Lake and blowing out the Forest Area Warriors 50-0 last Friday. The win improved Engadine to 2-4 on the season.
The Eagles found themselves in the rare position of favorites, and they did not disappoint. Engadine’s offense used its blend of size and speed, moving the ball freely early in the game. Gavin Maki and Coleman Loebach turned in a big gain on a first quarter option play that set up a 1-yard Jackson Oven touchdown run to start Engadine’s high flying night. Oven added another for Engadine in the second, going 24 yards for the score. After a spectacular diving play by Gavin Maki on the two point conversion, the Eagles led 16-0.
Oven delivered one of the biggest plays of the season on the ensuing drive, going untouched around the left end on a 63-yard score that had the Eagles in total control.
The Eagles would go to the air to open up their second half scoring, as Maki executed a play action pass and found Russell King in the end zone. Jared Burton also added a score on the ground for the Eagles. In a highlight of the night, senior Vern Loebach scored his first career touchdown for Engadine.
The Eagles didn’t just play with style–they travelled in style as well. Community businesses and individuals sponsored a charter bus for the long trip to Fife Lake, located just south of Kalkaska. The Engadine Football team thanks Newberry Motors, Schroeder Excavating & Trucking, Key Realty, Mac’s Market, Loebach Construction, Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, Graymont, and the Engadine Consolidated School Transportation Department for making the trip possible. Newberry Subway also provided lunch for the team during the trip.
The Eagles are off this week, before hosting Atlanta next Friday.
