Three Lakes Academy was recently awarded a $3,000 grant to fight childhood food insecurity by the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) and the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies (MFBFoC). Grant funds will be used to purchase healthy snacks for students throughout the school year.

Agents for Change Grants are awarded to Michigan school districts every other month. Schools are nominated by a local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the school and overall goal of the program.

Farm Bureau agent Tracy Germain nominated Three Lakes Academy for the grant and is excited to come alongside the school and support their hunger-relief efforts. As Germain says, “Three Lakes Academy’s ‘Healthy Snack Fund’ is a large cooler kept on site which is regularly filled with healthy food options for the kids to grab when needed.

“This program is currently funded by parents and staff, as well as donations from the local community,” Germain said. “Given the rural nature of our community, economic challenges can make it difficult to maintain healthy snack options, and we are happy to ease that burden where we can. A special thanks to our MFB Mackinac-Luce Schoolcraft Local Board for donating an additional $500, allowing us to reach our goal of $3,000 for the program.”

The ACF, whose mission is to end hunger in Michigan, is a donor-designated fund administered through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture.
