Engadine Consolidated Schools celebrated their 2024 Homecoming last week with activities throughout the week, culminating in the patriotic-themed homecoming parade on Friday the 20. Each high school class decorated a truck in the theme, and each was judged on creativity. The sophomore class won first place.

The parade went through town and into the Salzeider Sports Complex, followed by a tailgate party sponsored by the Engadine Sports Boosters. The Eagles played the Mid-Peninsula Wolverines and the football team stomped out of a trailer through a smoke machine, much to the delight of the Eagle fans in attendance.

It was a night perfectly made for football. The Eagles defeated Mid-Pen 68-0!

Another highlight of the night was the annual Homecoming Court and crowning the 2024 king and queen. Last year’s king, Persson McKeage, and queen, Ally Loebach, crowned new royalty in Hunter Cameron and Hali Butkovich.

Senior queen candidates also included Abby Denny, Eden Freed, and Danielle Gehrke. King candidates included Evan Lustila, Dakota Taylor, and Eli Germain. Rounding out the court were junior representatives Bianca Briggs and Elijah Hatch, sophomore representatives Lhea Herlik and Karter Ehn, and freshman representatives McKinley Houghton and Edward Franckowiak.

The Engadine Eagles football program recently received a $10,000 grant from the Detroit Lions Touchdown in Your Town Foundation. As part of winning this competitive grant, the Detroit Lions paid for coaches, staff and students to head down to Detroit to Ford Field with a charter bus that picked them up at the school, brought them to Inland Lakes to compete in a scrimmage and then proceeded to Detroit. The foundation paid for complete costs to stay in Dearborn, about 12 miles from Ford Field, where the Engadine Eagle representatives were shuttled to Ford Field stadium for a presentation for all participating schools, followed by a special escort to their seats for a Lions pregame.

During the game’s first quarter, Coach Charlie Fosdick and an ECS student representative were brought down to the field for a mid-game televised presentation, then the Engadine Eagles squad was set loose to enjoy the remainder of the game and the Ford Field amenities.

“This was the second year that I applied for the Detroit Lions Touchdown in Your Town Foundation and was really shocked that we were selected for it,” Fosdick said
.
This was a huge boost to the program at Engadine and funds were used to purchase new shoulder pads, new helmets, new girdles, a new tackle dummy and two practice pads. Congratulations to Coach Charlie for going after these funds to expand the Eagles football program!
