Every Saturday in February, experience the magic of the Upper Falls under the glow of over 70 kerosene lanterns. This self-guided, one-mile loop offers a peaceful winter escape for snowshoers and skiers alike.
Lantern-lit hikes take place from 6-8 p.m. each Saturday. What do you need to know about the hikes?
• Meet at the trailhead at the end of the Upper Falls parking area.
• Between laps, join us by the bonfire to enjoy warm refreshments and good company.
• Snowshoes or skis are required to keep the trail in top condition for everyone. If you don’t have your own, we offer a variety of sizes (including children’s) on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Please bring a headlamp or flashlight for extra visibility. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are happy to join the fun!
In addition to the lantern-lit hikes, the park offers guided snowshoe hikes every Saturday along the same track from 2-3 p.m. Join a park ranger at the Fact Shack to learn about the park from a wintertime perspective!
These events are only cancelled in extreme weather (windchill -10 or below). Check the park Facebook page for updates.
A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. To make a camping reservation, visit MIDNRReservations.com or call 1-800-447-2757.
