Boater Ed Miles of Newberry and Veteran Jim Whalen of Newberry captured the top prize of $1,000 in the 5th Annual Luce County Veterans Appeciation Bass Classic on South Manistique Lake on Sunday, June 12.

Miles and Whalen weighed in five bass with a total weight of 13.61 pounds. Whalen caught the Newberry Motors Veteran “Big Bass”, a 4.33 smallmouth, winning an additional $100.

Pro Scott Cormier and Veteran Tina Looman took 2nd place with 12.11 pounds. Third place was captured by pro Chris Sicotte and Veteran Ken Rohloff with 11.38 pounds.

Pro Glenn Cook and Veteran Chris Archer grabbed 4th place with a weight of 11.25. Pro Teddy Baxter and Veteran Bruce Lane posted 11.23 for 5th place. Sixth place was taken by pro Colter Lubben and Veteran Luke Wood with 11.06. Lubben also collected the Newberry Motors Boater “Big Bass” award of $100.

Boater Michael Krupla and Veteran father Dan Krupla caught 10.81 for 7th place. Eighth place went to Newberry’s Matt Payment and Veteran PJ Costa with 9.74 pounds. Ninth place was taken by boater Bill Feebeck and Veteran Mike Needham with 9.3 pounds. Boater Vance Mosely and Veteran Justin Robinson had 8.63 pounds for 10th place.

Pro Jeff Sicotte and Veteran Roland Smith weighed three bass for 5.46 pounds, taking 11th place. 12th place went to boater Brett Saunders and Veteran Rudy Mendoza with two bass for 3.55 pounds.

Boater Owen Simmons and Veteran Dale Polzien and boater Josh Hardy and Veteran Dale Hardy failed to catch a legal bass, but still won cash and prizes for being tied for 13th place.

The tournament was presented by Goldthorpe Enterprises, Northern Wings Repair, Newberry Motors, Luce County Veteran Services Office, Rainbow Packing of Escanaba, Styes Guys, Waterfront Sport and Marine, Enigma Fishing, Zubaz, Keelshield/Gator Guards and 1450 WNBY.
