The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has issued a warning to waterfowl hunters about the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Michigan wildlife, including geese, eagles, and hawks.

Hunters are advised to take safety measures such as wearing gloves during game processing, disinfecting equipment, and cooking meat thoroughly to 165°F. The DNR also encourages hunters to report any unusual die-offs of waterfowl, gulls, or shorebirds using the “Eyes in the Field” tool.
