Mary Moore Houseman

Longtime Curtis resident, Mary Moore Houseman, 83, died Saturday morning, August 30, 2025 at Golden Leaves Living Center in Newberry.
Born November 7, 1941 in Curtis, daughter of the late James and Lottie (Clark) Lowry, Mary was a 1959 high school graduate.
On September 11, 1959, Mary married Sherwood William Moore. Mary was employed in the maintenance department at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center for several years until her retirement. Mary was a member of the Curtis Baptist Church and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and painting.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband’s Sherwood Moore and John Houseman; son Sherwood J. “Woody” Moore; siblings Florence Cole, Jennie Hartwick, Joan McNeill, James Lowry and Frank Lowry.
Survivors include her son, Greg (Roberta) Moore, of Engadine; grandchildren Brooke (Joe) Richard of Pickford and Katie Moore of Engadine; several nieces and nephews.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Calvary Baptist Church in Engadine. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mary will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Brian Oberg officiating with a luncheon following. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis.
