April 28, 1966 – August 14, 2025
Lifelong area resident David James Littlejohn, 59, of Lakefield Township, died Thursday evening, August 14, 2025 at his residence.
Born April 28, 1966 in Newberry, son of J.D. and Ann (Stampfler) Littlejohn, David was a 1984 graduate of Newberry High School.
David was a “Jack of all trades” employed with Payne and Dolan Construction, in the logging industry driving truck, skidder operator and chainsaw operator and at the Luce County Road Commission until his retirement due to his declining health.
David loved to watch his deer in the yard, feeding them throughout the year and, while he loved watching his deer, he was also very proud of “Big Mo”, his big buck he got while hunting. He was the king of puttering around, tinkering on things outside and in the garage, always working on his next great invention to make life easier.
David is preceded in death by his father John Douglas “J.D.” Littlejohn.
Survivors include his daughters Tara (Michael) Hegyi of Beaverton and Patricia Littlejohn (Nick Marks) of Newberry; mother Ann Littlejohn of Sault Ste. Marie; siblings Doug (Lou) Littlejohn of Newberry and Patricia Miszewski of Sault Ste. Marie; nieces, nephews and one great nephew; his “Fur Grandkids” dogs Finnigan, Biscuit, Ottie and Bailey in addition to his beloved cat Bootsie.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A celebration of life will take place Saturday August 30, 2025 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm at Howard’s Park in McMillan, Michigan.
The Littlejohn family extends their great appreciation to David’s lifelong friends, Scott “Hoot” Hetrick and James “Bones” Davis, who checked in on him on the regular basis after his cancer diagnosis and helped him with many things during this time. Also, the family extends their great appreciation to Hunter Tucker who would help him with many outdoor chores and check in on him as needed.
Memorials may be directed to the Tahquamenon Area Logging Museum, PO Box 254, Newberry, Michigan 49868 or to Mariucci Family Beacon House, 200 South Seventh Street, Marquette, Michigan 49855 or at https://upbeaconhouse.org/donate/ in his loving memory.
