Daisy Elizabeth Matlock
April 13, 1964 – July 1, 2025
Daisy Elizabeth Matlock, age 61, of Newberry, Michigan, left this life on July 1, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
“Liz” was born April 13, 1964, in Kermit, Texas, to Otis W. Matlock and Alene Shackelford Matlock. She attended Colorado High School in Colorado City, Texas.
Liz is survived by her husband, Ernie Troop of Newberry; four children, Brandon Earl Hale of Westbrook, Texas, Candice Rich of Westbrook, Timothy Troop of Newberry and Ernie Troop Jr. of Newberry; six grandchildren; and brother, Casey Matlock of Newberry.
Per her wishes, Liz was cremated and a memorial gathering to honor her life will take place at a later date.

Rose M. Anderson
July 31, 1941 – July 17, 2025
Longtime Newberry resident, Rose Marie Anderson, 83, died Thursday morning, July 17, 2025 at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.
Born July 31, 1941 on the Butkovich family farm in Engadine, Rose was the daughter of the late Frank and Dera (Stimac) Butkovich. Rose attended Garfield Township Schools and was a 1959 graduate of Engadine High School.
Her working career began at the Naubinway Hotel and continued as a secretary for the Citi Service Gas Company, waitress and payroll bookkeeper at the Paul Bunyan Restaurant and later retired following 13 years with Paul Bush C.P.A. She was also bookkeeper for the family business, Peter K. Anderson and Sons Excavating, for several years.
On May 9, 1964, Rose married Peter K. Anderson in Engadine and they resided in Newberry for the past 61 years. Rose was a longtime volunteer for several organizations including the Tahquamenon Logging Museum for 38 years, the BMX and Motor Cross concession stand and as a reading mentor for the S.T.A.R.S. program at Tahquamenon Area Schools.
Rose enjoyed reading to her great-grandsons, quilting blankets, growing her beautiful roses, camping, trips to the casino and, most of all, polka dances.
In addition to her parents, Rose is preceded in death by her siblings Richard, Walter, Roy, Jimmy, Mary Edwards, Victor and Matthew at infancy, brother-in-law’s Bill Edwards and Ed Mantei.
Survivors include her loving husband, Pete, of Newberry; children Linda (Bill) Paine, Kenny (Marcia) Anderson and Brian (JayeAnne) Anderson all of Newberry; grandson Colynn Anderson; great-grandsons Owen and Levi Anderson; siblings Betty Mantei, Don (Cathy) Butkovich and Art (Peg) Butkovich all of Engadine; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Wednesday July 23, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Newberry. Funeral services celebrating the life of Rose will follow at 1:00 pm at the church with Pastor Kyle Kuehl officiating. Interment will take place at the Anderson family lot at Forest Home Cemetery.
