Michele Kathleen Cool
November 29, 1974 – March 19, 2026
Michele Kathleen Cool, 51, of Newberry, passed away suddenly on Thursday afternoon, March 19, 2026. Born November 29, 1974, in Manistique, she was the daughter of the late James and Harriet (Burkhart) Bolda.
Michele grew up helping her parents at the family’s A & W restaurant in Newberry, where she learned the value of hard work and community. She graduated from Newberry High School and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Madonna University in Livonia.
Guided by a deep and sincere faith, Michele entered the novitiate with the Felician Sisters, dedicating several years to religious formation and discernment. Though she ultimately chose a different path, her devotion to God remained the foundation of her life.
In 2011, Michele met the love of her life, Tom Cool. The two were united in marriage on June 7, 2014, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, where their shared faith became a central part of their life together.
Michele held various positions throughout her career, most notably as a cashier at Rahilly’s IGA and, most recently, as the Faith Formation Coordinator at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. A gifted and heartfelt singer, she also served as a Cantor, offering her voice in worship. Her faith shaped her daily life—she studied the saints, attended adoration and Mass, participated in Bible studies, and faithfully prayed the rosary most Saturday nights.
Beyond her spiritual devotion, Michele enjoyed exploring her family’s ancestry and expressing her creativity through art projects, including coloring and diamond painting. She cherished the companionship of her pets over the years, who brought her comfort and joy.
Michele is preceded in death by her parents, James and Harriet; siblings Robert Swain and Rose Marie Swain; mother‑in‑law Sharon Cool; brother‑in‑law James Cool; and grandmother‑in‑law Betty Cool.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom, of Newberry; brother James (Linda) Bolda of Newberry; father‑in‑law Thomas Cool of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brother‑in‑law Robert Cool of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and her beloved pets.
The recitation of the rosary will take place on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Visitation will follow from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial immediately afterward, celebrated by Fr. Jacek Wtyklo. Rite of Committal will take place in the spring of 2026, with the date and time to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Gregory’s Catholic Church to establish a fund supporting handicap accessibility improvements for the restrooms.
