Donald Gerald Martin
August 16, 1956 – November 5, 2025

Donald Gerald Martin, 69, of Newberry, died Wednesday morning, November 5, 2025 at his residence in the presence of his loving family and the care of North Woods Home Care and Hospice.

Born August 16, 1956 in Pontiac, son of the late Raymond and Lorraine (Alexander) Martin, Don was employed as a truck driver for several companies and later owned and operated Don Martin and Daughter Trucking Company until his retirement, due to his declining health.

Don was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Don also enjoyed horseshoes, playing poker and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his siblings Bob Martin, Bill Martin, Linda Vliet and Judy Brown.

Survivors include his loving wife, the former Melissa Keinonen, whom he married June 20, 1998 in Newberry; children Tasha (Josh) Foster of Newberry and Donald Martin of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter Laynee Foster of Newberry.

Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.

Selena “Sally” Webb
November 10, 1938 – October 31, 2025

Longtime Newberry resident, Selena Margaret Webb, 86, affectionately known as Sally, died Friday afternoon October 31, 2025 at Golden Leaves Living Center with her loving family at her bedside.

Born November 10, 1938 in Newberry, Sally was the fourth child of the late Einar and Eldora (Leny) Haapalainen. Sally was raised in Newberry and a 1956 graduate of Newberry High School.

Sally was registered to go to nursing school when she was proposed to by William “Jack” Webb, saying yes and, on August 3, 1956, were united in marriage at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Together they shared 20 years of traveling together with her family while Jack was enlisted in the United States Air Force, residing in Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, Texas, Japan, Turkey and Okinawa.

Following her husband’s retirement from the United States Air Force in 1976, they came back to Newberry, owning the Evening Star Motel. Sally worked at the Newberry Regional Mental Health Center until its closure and later at Tahquamenon Area Schools as a teacher’s aide, retiring in 1997.

In addition to her parents, Sally is preceded in death by her husband Jack on September 9, 2016, son Terrance on January 15, 2015, infant grandson Christopher John Webb in 1983 and siblings Henry Haapalainen, Nancy Brumit and Elaine Huggins.

Survivors include her son Bill Webb of Grand Rapids and daughter Catherine (Kurt) Chamberlain of McMillan; eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Sally was a longtime member of the Annex auxiliary and loved participating in the annex bazaar. She was one of the initial members that started up Project Backpack in Newberry and volunteered for many years. She loved traveling to visit her kids, grandkids and was a visible supporter in the stands cheering them on in high school and college sports. She loved crafting with family and was a beautiful crocheter. Sally was a longtime active member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.

A Memorial Mass for Sally will be celebrated Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church with Fr. Frank Ricca officiating. Rite of Committal will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in the spring/summer of 2026.

Memorials may be directed to St. Gregory’s Catholic Church specified to the high school retreat fund or to Golden Leaves Living Center specified to the activities department in Sally’s loving memory.
