October 4, 1956 – September 29, 2025

Randall Kade Papist was born on October 4, 1956, and passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2025, at the age of 68. Randy was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Stanley and Mary Papist.

Randy attended New Haven High School and graduated in 1974. Following his graduation he obtained his heavy equipment operations certificate. Later in life Randy received a corrections officer certificate from Northern Michigan University, though he never followed through with that path feeling that he was needed more at home.

Randy moved to Newberry in 1974 where he held several different jobs. He helped his parents at the 4 Mile Corner Market, worked as a millwright, and worked with the DNR (a position he especially enjoyed.) He became most well known in the community as the Manager of Lynn Auto Parts (NAPA) where he worked for 40 years. He had an extraordinary memory for part numbers and truly enjoyed helping others solve challenging problems.

As a youth, Randy participated in the Boy Scouts of America and later returned to assist as a scout leader when his two sons became Scouts. He especially cherished trips to Isle Royale and Philmont Scout Ranch, which he often recounted with great enthusiasm.

Randy greatly loved the outdoors and was a passionate outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing the river and lake (especially with this wife on the lake), and camping every summer which he happily did at his wife’s request. He bowled league for many years and was a member of the Tahquamenon Area Sportsmen Club where he shot trap. He also took great pride in making maple syrup, a family tradition he started and continued for the last 15 years.

Randy met the love of his life, Kimberly Hacker, in 1981 and married on August 27, 1983, at Ferris Center Church of Christ in Vestaburg, Michigan. They were married for over 42 years during which time they built a life, home, and family together.

Randy was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Stanley Otto Papist and Mary Margaret Wilkinson Papist, son Kevin Randall Papist, brother Glen Papist, brother-in-law Glenn Askew, and sister-in-law Amy Papist.

He is survived by his wife Kimberly Papist and their two sons. Anthony Papist, his wife Shannon and their son Wesley of Interlochen, Michigan. Stuart Papist and his wife Hollie, their children Lillian, Hope, and Kaden of Vestaburg, Michigan. His siblings Kathleen Askew of Pheonix, AZ; Steven Papist, Susan and Ray Holbrook, Deborah and David Faulkner all of Newberry, Michigan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends and memorial service took place Friday October 3, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church in Newberry with Pastor Melinda VanderSys officiating.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
