Mary Helen Abbott
November 14, 1937 – August 14, 2022

Cutler Bay, FL – Mary Helen Abbott, 84, passed away peacefully August 14, 2022, at Eastridge Retirement Village. She was born November 14, 1937, in Lansing MI the daughter of Norman Harold Mills and Helen Gertrude Stoll Mills.

Mary Helen graduated from Lansing Sexton High School, Class of 1955. Following graduation she enrolled in McMurry College, a Methodist school for all women, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. She attended Western Michigan University where she earned a specialized degree in Teaching. Mary Helen also attended Michigan State University where she studied and accomplished her MACT, Masters of Arts for the Classroom Teacher in 3 years while working full-time. Her career was spent in the field of teaching, which she loved. She spent 23 years teaching elementary students, from 1st grade to 5th grade, at Maple Grove Elementary School in Lansing, MI. Following her teaching career, she continued influencing students by volunteering as a reading mentor at local schools in the Miami area. She was passionate about her career and it gave her much joy.

Mary Helen and Larmon E. Abbott were married at their home in Miami FL, and spent 19 years in marriage together, before Larmon’s passing in 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larmon; parents, Normal Harold Mills and Helen Gertrude Mills; infant brother, Tom who was born 5 years prior to her birth. Surviving family members include: Daughter, Heather and her husband Tom. Their children Katie and her husband Matt; Tommy and his wife Kasie and their 2 children; Step-Daughter Jane and her husband Larry. Their children, Joel and Ashley.

During her years living at the Eastridge community, she served in places she loved helping people at the community library and the Thrift Shop. She was also on the committee to welcome new residents which was a perfect fit for her kind hearted and welcoming personality.

Many have been inspired by Mary Helen’s eternal optimism.  She often expressed gratitude for her relationships by saying, “There have been so many good people in my life.”  She will be deeply missed and remembered by family and friends as having radiated positivity wherever she went.

 

Mary Irene Dexter
March 20, 1935 – September 17, 2022

Mary Irene Dexter, age 87 of Germfask, MI, passed away peacefully early Saturday, September 17, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born on March 20, 1935, in Oscoda, MI, the daughter of Dale Wesley and Alice Mari (Brothers) Streeter.  Mary’s family moved to Germfask when she was 11 years old, and she was proud to be a resident of Germfask.  Mary attended Manistique Area Schools.

Mary married Kenneth Lytle in Germfask in January of 1953, and they were happily married until his death January 31, 1990.    Mary was a dedicated homemaker and served as Township Treasure for Germfask Township for many years.  She also worked at Blaney Park in the laundry.  Mary was an active member of the Germfask VFW Auxiliary, and the Lions Club.  She was a parishioner at Germfask Christian Fellowship Church and played piano for services.  Mary liked to knit and made a lot of mittens for kids. She was skilled at embroidery, enjoyed crafting, and shared her gift of music, playing piano and singing at many weddings and funerals.  She was “the best cook in the whole world” and shared her cooking with the community.  Above all she loved spending time with her family and was the most wonderful grandma.

Mary is survived by her son Kenneth (Patti) Lytle of Levering, MI; daughters Shelley (Tom) Mallory of Levering, MI, Diane (George) Ducsay of Newberry, MI, Kathy LaFonte of Grand Rapids, MI, and Dawn (Randy) Dombrowski of McMillian, MI; and grandchildren Tara, George Jr., Heather, Amanda, Misty, Quinn, Jill, Desiree, Kristin, and Eric; 14 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Alice Streeter, her husband Kenneth Lytle, second husband Donald Dexter, and granddaughter Nikki Carrier.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Germfask Christian Fellowship Church in Germfask from 3:00PM – 4:00PM, with a Memorial Service at 4:00PM, with JD Livermore officiating.  Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be sent to the Germfask Christian Fellowship Church at 6878 State Hwy M-77, Germfask, MI 49836.

Evelyn Anna Moore
March 27, 1928 – September 18, 2022

Longtime Lakefield resident, Evelyn Anna Moore, 94, died Sunday afternoon September 18, 2022 at Maple Ridge AFC Home in the presence of her loving family and the care of North Woods Home Care and Hospice.

Born March 27, 1928 on the family homestead in Huron Township, Wayne County, Michigan and daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Horden) Kittle, Evelyn was a high school graduate.

On April 9, 1946, Evelyn married Gerald Moore in Flat Rock, Michigan.  Evelyn was a devoted homemaker raising her family and longtime member of Northstar Baptist Church in McMillan.  Evelyn enjoyed being involved in the family business, Moore Well Drilling, working in the Church and AWANA.  Evelyn also enjoyed knitting in the evening but her greatest joy along with being “Granny” to her family was the company of anyone that stopped by for her coffee and treats!

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Gerald in 1981 and siblings Charles Kittle, Jack Kittle and Agnes Preston.

Survivors include her son Gary (Kathy) Moore of McMillan; granddaughters Sherri (David) Rogers of Roger City and Christine (Jeremy) Knudsen of Memphis, Tennessee; great-grandchildren Drew Rogers, Kurt Rogers and Ethan Rogers all of Roger City and Aiden Knudsen of Memphis, Tennessee; great-great-grandchildren Evelyn Rogers, Tucker Rogers, Jason Rogers, Quinn Rogers, Carson Rogers, Duke Rogers and Briella Rogers.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday September 24, 2022 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Northstar Baptist Church in McMillan.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Evelyn will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Paul Williams officiating.  Interment will take place at the East Lakefield Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Northstar Christian Academy in her loving memory.
