Carol McTiver Schmidt
October 2, 1928 – June 26, 2023

Lifelong Newberry resident Carol McTiver Schmidt, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Helen Newberry Joy hospital.

Born October 2, 1928 in Newberry, she was the daughter of the late Bernard McTiver & Dean (Sandison) McTiver.  Carol worked for the Department of Natural Resources as a radio dispatcher for 33 years.  She also worked as an evening school librarian.

Besides her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her husband Harry (Mickey), daughter Rebecca Bawkon, son Jan Schmidt, grandson Ryan Schmidt, grandson Thaddeus Bawkon, son-in-law John Lundquist and son-in-law Ken Hamlin.  Survivors include sister Beth “Susie” Day of Fort Myers, Florida; children Ann Lundquist of St Clair Shores, Priscilla Hamlin of Kalamazoo, Michael (Kathie) Schmidt of Novi; daughter-in-law Elise Schmidt of Charlevoix; son-in-law Bruce Bawkon of Ann Arbor; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Carol had a wide variety of interests. She loved traveling, enjoying the sites, people and cultures, wintering in Florida, classical music and plays, watching British mysteries, reading, baking, gardening, golfing, skiing, hiking, two track road adventures, her loving cats and a deep appreciation for nature’s wonder.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  Carol’s tireless drive to “live life” with dignity and grace was inspiring to all around her.

Carol was an active lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.  Whether it was the church treasurer, or making pasties she was dedicated to serve the church and community.

A memorial service will be held on Monday July 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Newberry with Pastor Jackie Roe and Charlie Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Newberry United Methodist Church or the Tahquamenon Education Foundation, in memory of Carol M. Schmidt.

Annette C. Przybysz
February 3, 1942 – June 20, 2023

Annette Cecilia Przybysz, 81, formerly of Lakefield, died Tuesday morning June 20, 2023 at the Ball Hospice House-EUP in Sault Ste. Marie.

Born February 3, 1942 in Lakefield Township, daughter of the late William and Genevieve (O’Brien) Brow, Annette was a 1960 graduate of Newberry High School.  After graduation, she moved to Detroit where she met and married the love of her life, Joseph Przybysz, and resided in Redford.  Annette was employed as an Accountant at Masco Technology in Livonia until her retirement in in 1996.  Joseph and Annette lived the rest of their lives in Houghton Lake Heights, Michigan where Annette enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing cards with her friends and was a member of the Croquet Club.

In addition to her parents, Annette is preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2014 and siblings Donald Brow, Richard (Beverly) Brow, Michael (Carol) Brow, Mary (Stanley) MacCallum, Orpha (James) Fredenberg, Ellen (Charles) Kennedy, Kathleen (Gerald) Quill and sister-in-law Darlene Brow

Survivors include her siblings Elmer Brow of Norway and Bernadette (Charles) Derusha of Newberry; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Per request, cremation services were accorded.  A memorial service will be held Thursday June 29, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo, of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, officiating.  Rite of Committal will take place at the West Lakefield Township Cemetery.
