Victor Ryan McNamara
June 25, 1953 – June 11, 2023

Victor “Vic” Ryan McNamara, age 69 of Glennie, MI., passed away on June 11, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Vic was born on June 25, 1953 in Newberry, MI. to the late John Henry and Janet Lee (May) McNamara.

Vic was a logger by trade, but as a young man he did a great deal of travel and work around the United States. He had a passion for building 4-wheel drive trucks, but more than anything he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Vic is survived by his wife, Rebecca “Becky”; grandson, Tyler (Jenni); sons, Shawn (Laura), Shane (Brittney), Benjamin (Tracy), Jake, Mathew (Michele), Corbin; daughters, Amanda, Chasity (Carl) Garchow, Tasha (James) Corbin; brother, Johnny Ray McNamara; sister, Alyce Loehr; grandchildren, Cody, Blaine, Josh, Evan, Jacee, Jake, Liam, Wyatt, Bo, Brison, Hannah, Gabby, Holden, Zach, J.J., Sam, and many other family and friends. A special thanks to cousin Bill McNamara for his love and support over this last year.

Vic is preceded in death by his parents; children, Laurie Simmons and Ryan McNamara; brother, Kelly McNamara.

Services for Vic were held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, MI. Visitation was held from 11:00 – 1:00 with funeral services at 1:00pm. Interment followed at the Glennie cemetery in Glennie, MI with a luncheon after the interment at the Wolf’s Den Restaurant in Glennie.

James A. Martindale
July 3, 1949 – June 8, 2023

Lifelong Newberry resident, James Allen Martindale, 73, died Thursday morning, June 8, 2023 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey.

Born July 3, 1949 in Newberry, son of the late Viles “Buck” and Dorothy (Mattson) Martindale, Jim was a 1969 graduate of Newberry High School.

On April 29, 1970, Jim enlisted into the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on January 15, 1972 attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class and continued in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on April 1, 1976.

Upon his discharge, Jim returned to Newberry where he was employed as a cook at the Newberry Regional Mental Health Center, finishing his employment career as a custodian at the Mt. Pleasant Center, retiring in 2002.

Jim attended Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, was a member of the American Legion Post #74 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, agate hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his brother-in-law David Frazier Sr.

Survivors include his children James Martindale of Chelsea, Kourtney (Chris) Pumfrey of Gould City and Clyde (Angela) Frayley of Marquette/Big Bay; grandchildren Joseph Jr. (Kelsy) Pumfrey of Monroe, Desiree Pumfrey of Newberry, Amanda Martindale of Newberry, Paige (Mike) Zink of Jackson and Josh Fraley of Marquette; great-grandchildren Greyson Pumfrey, Sofia Pumfrey and Sammy Martindale; siblings George (Tracy) Martindale of Gould City, Lloyd (Carolyn) Martindale of Newberry and Mary Frazier of Naubinway.

Per request, cremation services were accorded.  Graveside services will be held Friday June 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at Forest Home Cemetery with Pastor Melinda VanderSys, of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, officiating.  Concluding military honors will be rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #74.
