George Edwin Hahn
July 28, 1931 – May 29, 2023

Former Engadine resident, George Edwin Hahn, 91, a resident of Sault Ste. Marie since 2014, died Monday, May 29, 2023 at My Michigan Medical Center-Sault Ste. Marie.

Born July 28, 1931 in Engadine, son of the late Adolph and Minnie (Schroeder) Hahn, George served in the United States Army during the Korean War serving on the front line until his honorable discharge in April of 1954.

On April 25, 1955, George married the former Arlene Wagner in Detroit.  George was employed as a deliveryman/installer for the Wilbert Burial Vault Company for several years until his retirement.

George and his wife, Arlene, moved back to Engadine in 1996 where he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his wife Arlene on February 22, 2005, siblings Alfred Hahn, Herbert Hahn and Erwin Hahn.

Survivors include his siblings Carol (Raymond) Patterson of Engadine and Darwin (Mary) Hahn of Clio; sister-in-law Marion Lesatz of Engadine; several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Monday June 5, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine.  Funeral services celebrating the life of George will follow at 4:00 pm at the church with Pastor Kyle Kuehl officiating.  Interment with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #290 and the United States Army Honor Guard will follow at the Engadine Cemetery.  Following the interment services, the family extends an invitation to join with them back at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Fellowship Center for a meal.

Linda Jean Holmes
October 30, 1948 – May 27, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Linda Jean Holmes, 74, died Saturday, May 27, 2023 at her residence.  Linda was born October 30, 1948 in Detroit, daughter of the late Edward and Pauline (Klotkowski) Ivy.

A resident of Newberry since 1975, Linda was employed in the housekeeping department at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital for several years until her retirement.  Linda enjoyed painting, puzzles and trips to Lake Superior.

In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Perry “Pete” James Holmes Sr. on July 3, 2010.

Survivors include her sons Perry James (Brenda) Holmes II of Newberry and David Vincent Holmes of Midland; grandchildren Joseph Sauve of Newberry, Chelsie Holmes of Colorado, Tia Sauve of St. Clair Shores, Nicholas (Sydney) Holmes of Arvada, Colorado, Perry Ellie (Cory Allen)  Holmes of Detroit and Megan (Dustin Crosby) Holmes of Newberry; great-grandchildren Stevie Dee Sauve of Newberry, Callen Boyd-Cleaver of St. Clair Shores and Bowie June Crosby of Newberry; siblings Pete Ivy of Las Vegas, Nevada and Pat Saxman of Rockford, Illinois.

Per request, cremation services have been accorded with no public services scheduled.
