John J. Deloria Jr.
May 24, 1938 – May 21, 2022

Former Newberry resident, John J. Deloria Jr., 83, of Manistique, died Saturday morning, May 21, 2022 at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique.

Born May 24, 1938 in Dollarville, son of the late John Sr. and Esther (Matts) Deloria, John went to Newberry High School.

John was employed with the Michigan Department of Transportation at the Engadine garage. John resided in Newberry most of his life and enjoyed being an active member of the Newberry United Methodist Church. He had a lifelong passion for cars and bought his first car before he even had a driver’s license. He loved working on cars, going to antique car shows and car races.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded by his wife Eleanor on June 16, 2016; sister Betty Parish and one sister at infancy.

Survivors include his children William “Bill” Deloria (Susan Mosca) of Sault Ste. Marie, Debbie Deloria of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Christie Deloria (Curt Sheffield) of Marquette; grandchildren Daniel and Darien Goheen; sister Margaret (Michael) Hauxwell of Sault Ste. Marie.

Per request, cremation services were accorded.  A Memorial Service celebrating the life of John will be held Saturday June 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Newberry United Methodist Church with Pastor Jackie Roe officiating.
