Gladys Monica Roach
January 5, 1928 – April 8, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Gladys Monica Roach, 95, died Saturday morning, April 8, 2023 in the presence of her loving family and the care of North Woods Hospice.

Born January 5, 1928 in Bay County, Michigan, daughter of the late Rome and Hazel (Moore) Jenkins, Gladys moved with her family to the Newberry area in her teenage years.

On January 21, 1947, Gladys married Lloyd “Bud” Roach Jr. in Newberry. She was formerly employed as a Nurse’s Aide and was a devoted homemaker raising her family. Gladys was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and enjoyed baking, cooking, flower gardening and spending time with her family at her cabin on Round Lake and her camp north of Newberry.

In addition to her parents, Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Bud on November 20, 2003, son Jerry Roach, sister Dorothy Newman, brother John Jenkins and son-in-law Dennis “Pink” Robinson.
Survivors include her children Patricia Robinson of Newberry, John (Jackie) Roach of McMillan, Lisa (Butch) Quinlan of Newberry and daughter-in-law Denise Roach of Wisconsin; grandchildren Kurt (Prudy) Robinson, Dana Roach, Cori (Patrick) Whalen, Linsey (Phillip) Kaufman, Jami Raymond, Casey Robinson, Amy (Dan) Hiltunen, Aaron (Ann) Quinlan and Molly (Brandon) Klusmeyer; fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; sister Donna Quinn of Sault Ste. Marie and several special nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday April 14, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Forest Home Cemetery.

Delores Marie Hice
July 20, 1938 – April 10, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Delores Marie Hice, 84, affectionately known as “Dee” or “Doris”, passed away Monday morning, April 10, 2023 at Golden Leaves Living Center in Newberry. Delores was born July 20, 1938 in Au Train, daughter of the late Clyde and Mildred (Roach) Fraley.

Delores was easy going, kind, had a generous spirit with an incredible sense of humor. She enjoyed many things, but especially those that involved family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Joe, daughter Patty Sturgeon, grandchildren Angel Sturgeon and Tim Sturgeon II, brother Clyde Jr. (Edna) Fraley, sisters Judy Tripp and Peggy Crandell, sister-in-law Marzy Fraley and dear friend Dutch.

Survivors include her daughter Lee Ann (Brian) O’Donohue of National City; grandchildren Deanna Sturgeon, Zachary Sturgeon, Sean O’Donohue and Faye Sharrett; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; brothers Bobby (Kathy) Fraley of Big Bay, Jink Fraley of Big Bay and James (Debbie) Fraley of Big Bay; son-in-law Tim Sturgeon; brother-in-law’s Terry Tripp of Harvey and Bobby Crandell of Newberry; honorary grandchild Bev; beloved nephew Matt and many other nieces and nephews.

Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Golden Leaves Living Center for the love and care provided to Delores in her final years.
