Keith Gordon Carney
January 15, 1961 – February 28, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Keith Gordon Carney, 62, died Tuesday February 28, 2023 at his residence.

Born January 15, 1961 in Howell, son of Kenneth and Arlene (Messer) Carney, Keith loved reading, listening to Bob Segar music and spending time with the grandchildren.

Keith is preceded in death by his mother Arlene Carney, his siblings, identical twin Kenneth F. Carney, James Carney and Raymond Carney.

Survivors include his loving wife and childhood sweetheart, the former Penny Ash of Newberry, whom he married June 4, 2010; his father Kenneth W. Carney of Newberry; his sister Denise (Artie) August of Miami, Florida; child Taylor (Emanuel) Henry of Toledo, Ohio; stepchildren Howard (Katie) Bliss IV and Shauna (Dustin) Phillips all of Newberry; step-grandchildren DeShawn Henry, Shayla Henry both of Toledo, Ohio,  Howard Bliss V, Delaney Bliss, Michael Bliss, Hunter Phillips, Robert Phillips, Brian Phillips, Dustin Phillips Jr. and Zoey Phillips all of Newberry, whom he loved as his own grandchildren.

Per request, cremation services were accorded.  A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Keith will be held at a later date.

Bonnie Janice Bennett
September 8, 1941 – March 4, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Bonnie Janice Bennett, 81, died Saturday morning, March 4, 2023 at her residence.

Born September 8, 1941 in Milton, Florida, daughter of the late L. Yutch and Grace (Warren) Lee, Bonnie was a graduate of Jay High School in Jay, Florida and later received a master’s degree in public health.

Bonnie was employed as a Registered Nurse for several years and, later, retiring as a health care investigator for the State of Michigan in 2000.

Bonnie was a member of the American Legion Post #74 Ladies Auxiliary, the Newberry Elks Lodge #1705 and the Red Hat Society.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, glassware art, reading, the outdoors and hunting and fishing with her husband, Joe.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, son David Watkins and sister Sara Livermore.

Survivors include her loving husband, Joseph, whom she married September 22, 1991 in Newberry; sons Timothy (Portia) Watkins of Annendale, Virginia and Michael (Angela) Watkins of Howard City; stepson Chris (Jessica) Bennett of Manistee; grandchildren Nathan Watkins, Mia Watkins, Timmy Watkins, Avery Watkins, Fletcher Bennett and Annora Bennett; brother-in-law LeRoy Livermore of Milton, Florida and sister-in-law Beth Chateauneuf of Midland.

Per request, cremation services were accorded.  Graveside services will be held in the spring/summer of 2023 at the Engadine Cemetery.

Kasey Marie Brow
April 9, 1987 – February 27, 2023

Lifelong area resident, Kasey Marie Brow, 35, of Manistique, died Monday morning, February 27, 2023 at her residence.

Born April 9, 1987 in Manistique, daughter of Brad and Shelly (Bridges) Brow, Kasey was 2006 graduate of Newberry High School.

During her lifetime, Kasey held various employments and, most prominently, as a health care aide.  Kasey enjoyed woodworking, painting, drawing, cooking and spending time with her family.

Kasey is preceded in death by her mother Shelly Brow; paternal grandparents Richard and Beverly Brow; maternal grandparents Charles and Ethel Fox.

Survivors include her father, Brad Brow, of Lakefield; siblings Justin Brow of Manistique, Barbara Marsh of Sault Ste. Marie, Richard (Abby) Brow of Manistique, Brittany Brow of Manistique and Courtney Brow of Flint; nephews Lucian Brow and Beckham Brow both of Manistique.

Per request, cremation services were accorded. A graveside service, to be scheduled, will take place this summer of 2023 at the West Lakefield Township Cemetery.

Jeanette Elaine Wing
January 19, 1937 – March 5, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Jeanette Elaine Wing, 86, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Sunday morning March 5, 2023 at her residence in the presence and care of her loving family and North Woods Hospice.

Born January 19, 1937 in Ovid, daughter of the late Duane & Ruth (Coates) Chamberlain, Jeanette was a graduate of Ovid High School and attended Central Michigan University, obtaining a degree in home economics.

During her first teaching assignment, Jeanette met and married Elwin Wing on August 21, 1960 in Marion.  Together they resided in Marion, Detroit, Boston, West Branch, Gladwin and had been a resident of Newberry for 50 years, raising four children.

Jeanette found her passion teaching multi-handicapped children.  She also taught Sunday school, bible school and 4-H for many years.  Upon retiring from education, she stayed very active with her grandkids, church and volunteering.  She loved being around kids, attending garage sales, trees and plants, reading, camping, spending time with her family and adventuring with her husband Elwin.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette is preceded in death by her beloved daughter-in-law Jennifer Wing.

Survivors include her loving husband, Elwin, of Newberry; children Karla (Collin) Walch of Bellevue, Karen (John) Schneider of Carp Lake, Paula Branam of Brimley and Paul Wing of McMillan; fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; siblings Annette (Fred) Bruch of Hernando, Mississippi, Don (Sue) Chamberlain of Diamondhead, Mississippi, Ron Chamberlain of Ovid and Ray (Kathy) Chamberlain of Diamondhead, Mississippi.

Jeanette will be greatly missed by her family however, they are confident she is in heaven with her Lord with the hope to be reunited with her one day.

Per request, cremation services were accorded.  A memorial service celebrating the life of Jeanette will take place at a later date at the First Baptist Church in Newberry with Pastor Jon Michael officiating.
