Sharon L. Beasinger
January 19, 1947 – February 17, 2023

Sharon Lee Beasinger of McMillan passed away February 17, 2023 at the McLaren Hospital in Flint, Mich.

She was born January 19, 1947, the daughter of Edward and Maybelle Wilson, in Pontiac, MI.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Orval Wilson of Saginaw, MI; sisters Alice Nelson of Newberry and Edith McGrandy of Tuscola, MI; and daughter Lucille Storms of McMillan, MI.

She is survived by her husband Harold Ray Beasinger of McMillan, MI; son Richard (Ellen) Storms of Bay City, MI; daughter Leann (Harland) McGahan of McMillan, MI; siblings Don and Deb Wilson of Vermont, MI, Gary and Judy of Bridgeport, Duane and Joyce of Saginaw, sister-in-law Linda Wilson, brother-in-law Ken Nelson of Newberry; several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

 

Willard “Terry” Kropp
January 8, 1962 – February 11, 2023

Willard “Terry” Kropp, 61, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 1:30 PM at First Church of God, 708 S George St, Decatur, MI, with Pastor Michael Heflin officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1PM until the time of the service.

Terry was born on January 8, 1962, in Newberry, MI to Edward & Allene (Holbrook) Kropp. On June 13, 2003, Terry married the love of his life, Toni, in a beautiful backyard ceremony at Toni’s mom’s house. Terry was a jack-of-all-trades and very much enjoyed building anything from a house to small household objects. He liked listening to country music and was an avid fan of the University of Michigan. However, what Terry loved the most was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Terry is survived by his wife, Toni; children, Ryan Kropp, Taleatha Kropp, Greg (Amanda) Pentland, Andy (Shantel) Pentland, and Katie Kropp; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings Bob (Peggy), Tony, Enola, Mike (Deb), Tanis and Nikki. He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Sundae Mae Garrod
May 15, 1954 – February 17, 2023

Lifelong Newberry resident, Sundae Mae Garrod, died Friday morning February 17, 2023 at McLaren Northern Michigan with her loving family at her side.

Born May 15, 1954 in Newberry, daughter of the late Elmer and Lucy (Skaggs) Dalgleish, Sundae married Russ Garrod on December 4, 1971 in Newberry and was a 1972 graduate of Newberry High School.

Sundae was formerly employed at Tahqua Lanes, Helen Newberry Joy Hospital and presently at McLean Sales, all of Newberry.  Sundae enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, playing cards with her friends, frequenting garage sales, geo caching, flower gardening, bird feeding and, most recently, caring for a stray cat at her home.

In addition to her parents, Sundae is preceded in death by her brother Alvin Dalgleish and great-nephew Michael Dalgleish.

Survivors include her loving husband, Russ, of Newberry; daughter Colleen (Phil) Smutek of Newberry and R.J. (Tabitha) Garrod of Kinross; grandchildren Travis Bruce, Mackenzie Webb and Jeni Garrod; nephew Alvin (Cindy) Dalgleish of McMillan; close friends John (Denise) McLean, Bill Carlson, Kathy Fahler, Sally (Chuck) Lavender and “sister” Bonnie Swanson.

Per her request, cremation services were accorded. A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Sundae will be held in the summer of 2023.  Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery.

Donna JoAnn Zehe
September 14, 1945 – February 14, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Donna JoAnn Zehe, 77, died Tuesday morning February 14, 2023 at McLaren Northern Michigan in the presence and the loving care of her family.

Born September 14, 1945 in Newberry, daughter of the late Albert and Margaret (Sova) Oberle, JoAnn married Leonard J. Zehe “Joe” on December 9, 1961 in Newberry.

JoAnn was briefly employed as a resident care aide at the Ft. Custer State Home, transferring in 1966 to the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center and continuing as a resident care aide until her retirement in 1992.

During her lifetime, JoAnn enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, blueberry picking, bingo, crossword puzzles, wintering in Florida and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed hosting backyard poolside bar-b-ques, hosting holiday events and knitting/crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn is preceded in death by her niece Kylie Oberle; siblings James Oberle, Albert “Jack” Oberle, Alberta Oberle, Virgalee Oberle, Alice Oberle, Roberta Lehto and Suzan “Sue” Taylor; companion dog “Zeke”.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 61 years, Leonard, of Newberry; children Karla (Paul) Bressette of Marquette and Albert “Joey” (Deb McCarthy) Zehe of Strongs; grandchildren Samantha (Justen) Knuttila, Lenny Zehe, Raymond (Katherine) Bressette, Katrina Dunlap and Megan Osterhout; great-grandchildren Aleeah, Adilyn, Kaleb, Kole, Jaxson, Sophia, Jay, Maddy and with one great-grandson to be expected; sister Peggy Swallow of Iron Mountain; several nieces and nephews especially nephew Bub (Cheryl) Taylor.

Graveside services will take place in the spring of 2023 at the Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.

Mary L. Crippin
September 16, 1935 – February 15, 2023

Longtime Newberry resident, Mary L. Crippin, 87, died Wednesday morning February 15, 2023 at Golden Leaves Living Center in Newberry.

Born September 16, 1935 in Ovid, daughter of the late Walter and Josephine (Hefty) Jones, Mary married Albert Crippin I on January 18, 1974 in Newberry.

Mary was employed at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in the housekeeping/ laundry department for several years until her retirement.  Mary was a member of the American Legion Post #74 Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed knitting and crafts.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband Albert B. Crippin I on March 3, 2012; step-sons Clair Crippin and Albert Crippin II; son-in-law Donald C. Burton; step son-in-law Duane Walker; siblings Clayton Jones, Gene Jones and Bill Jones.

Survivors include her daughter Debra Burton of Newberry; step-daughters Sherry (Tom) Jewel of DeWitt and Merrillee Walker of Kansas; step daughter-in-law’s Peggy Crippin of Laingsburg and Gloria Crippin of Kentucky; grandchildren Brandon (Jenny) Burton of Newberry and Justin (Tammy) Burton of Ishpeming; great-grandchildren Rylie Burton, Kadie Burton, Addison Burton and Geoff Burton; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.  Interment will take place at Forest Home Cemetery in Newberry.
