Michael Wayne Verrett
January 3, 1976 – January 19, 2024

Michael Wayne Verrett, 48, died Friday afternoon January 19, 2024 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida.

Born January 3, 1976, in Newberry, son of Guy Verrett and Brenda (Williams) Feeley, Michael attended Newberry High School.

Mike later moved Fort Myers, Florida where he worked as a cook. Returning to Michigan, Mike worked at the Tahquamenon Bed and Breakfast in Hulbert as their breakfast cook and was known as Magic Mike because of the meals he could put together.

Mike was active outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved teaching his young nephews and cousins how to fish. Mike was also an avid pool player. But most of all Mike loved spending time with his close family and friends.

Survivors include his parents Guy Verrett of Sawyer, Michigan and Brenda Feeley of Fort Myers, Florida; brother Kris (Jennifer) Verrett of Blythewood, South Carolina and sister Bethanie (Scott) Tarbert of Port Saint Lucie, Florida.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mike will be held Saturday February 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry with Sue Ellen Nolan as celebrant with a celebration of life following at the American Legion Post #393 in Hulbert.  Interment will take place at the Hulbert Township Cemetery.

Ethel Mae Vitale
March 29, 1932 – January 24, 2024

Lifelong area resident, Ethel Mae Vitale, 91, of Newberry, died Wednesday morning, January 24, 2024 at Golden Leaves Living Center.

Born March 29, 1932 in Gould City, daughter of the late Roy and Mable (Sidelinker) Morrison, Ethel was a 1951 graduate of Gould City High School.

Ethel was employed as a Domestic Service Technician at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center for several years, retiring in 1989.  Ethel enjoyed travelling, cruises and zip-lining.

In addition to her parents, Ethel is preceded in death by her husband Ralph on December 12, 1998; siblings Violet (Norm) Lentz, Doreen (James) Ackerman, Helen (Will) Paulson and Loreen (Robert) Purple; brother-in-law Wes Simmerman.

Survivors include her children Ralph Jr. (Insuk) Vitale of Richmond, Texas, Robin (Demaris Johnston) Vitale of Panama City, Panama, Rosalie (David) Calderone of Jackson, Michigan and Ramona (Robert) Marks of Newberry; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Roy Jr. (Ester) Morrison of Clarkston, Michigan, Larry (Judy) Morrison of Wahalla, Michigan, Joan Simmerman of Iron Mountain, Michigan and Marilyn (Dean) Crowe of Clarkston; several nieces and nephews.

Per request, cremation services were accorded with no public services scheduled.  Interment will take place at Morrison family lot at Fairview Cemetery in Manistique, Michigan at a later date.

The family of Ethel wishes to extend their appreciation and gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Golden Leaves Living Center for the care provided during her stay.
