Newberry gained a few new (temporary) residents this past Saturday, February 25. The Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce Snowman Building Contest resulted in 14 snow-people and one snow dog constructed in the parking lot of Ice Cream Bandits. 
The first-place medal and $50 prize went to 2-year-old Rickie Magnuson and her mom, Liz, for constructing an entire snow family, including a mom, dad, big brother, eight small children, and a snow dog.
The second-place medal and a cash prize of $30 was awarded to Sophia Wahl for her starry snow princess. The third-place medal and $20 was awarded to Daniel Rahilly for his snow-hockey player.
Participants enjoyed chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and hot chocolate while they worked on their masterpieces, and were given Subway coupons just for participating!
Sponsors for the event were First National Bank of St. Ignace, Seder’s Pizza, Zellar’s Village Inn, Andy’s Seney Bar, and Pickelman’s Total 1-Stop.
