A Luce County man said he had to double-check his ticket before believing he’d won a big Michigan Lottery prize.

The 54-year-old player, who asked to remain anonymous, said he plays Fantasy 5 regularly and checked his ticket after the Feb. 2 drawing.

“I’ve played Fantasy 5 for a long time, and I usually play every day,” he said. “When I saw I had all the numbers, I put my glasses on and checked it again to make sure I was reading it right. After counting them a second time, I said, ‘I think I just won the lottery!’”

He then used the Michigan Lottery app to scan the ticket several times to confirm the win.

The player matched all five numbers drawn — 01-23-24-31-36 — to win a share of the $980,840 jackpot. Another ticket also matched all five numbers, so each winner will receive $490,420.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Newberry BP, 7161 M-123 in Newberry.

The winner said he plans to use the money for home improvements and save the rest.
