Newberry’s Tahquamenon Logging Museum Board of Directors has some new faces and has announced plans and changes to the facility this season.
The board met on March 22 and the following members were elected: President, Candace Chapman; Vice President, Kaitlin Farmer; Secretary/Treasurer, Dixie Stewart; and Member at Large, Pete Wurdock.
One of the major projects for 2025 has resulted in the cancellation of the May and June museum Lumberjack Breakfasts. The cook shack floor supports need to be overhauled for safety reasons. The extent of the project is not yet known, but the board hopes to be able to hold the July breakfast.
The museum is also hoping to build a pavilion over their recently constructed “Big Wheels”, which long ago hauled logs from the woods in the summer and fall. The pavilion will also hold a full-size replica of a snow roller that will be coming to the grounds soon. Snow rollers were pulled by horses and used to compact snow on the log roads.
Other 2025 projects include upgrades to the exhibit building and the construction of handrails on the gift shop.
This year, the museum will be closed on Sundays. The museum will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to their Lumberjack Breakfasts later in the summer, the museum will again host their Rock the River Antique Car Show, which is set to take place in September.
The board is also hoping to secure more board members and volunteers for their events. The board of directors meet the third Wednesday of the month at 5 :30p.m.
