Robert Sherbrook was selected as Newberry Correctional Facility’s 2025 Correctional Officer of the Year.
Officer Sherbrook began his career with the Michigan Department of Corrections on October 3, 2021. He received the Jack Budd Award while in the Ken McKee Class at the academy. To win that award, recruits nominate a classmate, and the award recipient is chosen by the Officer Recruit Training Staff. Recruits nominated Officer Sherbrook due to his outstanding moral character, concern for fellow officers, and his positive and professional conduct.
Officer of the Year recipients are selected on several factors, including work ethic and performance, leadership skills, ability to work with colleagues and offenders, and involvement within the community.
Officer Sherbrook is a great role model for all staff at the facility due to his work ethic and experience. He leads by example and sets the standards for others to follow. His communication with others is always professional and he is always willing to mentor and train new staff.
Aside from work, Officer Sherbrook is active in the community. He volunteers at various festivals and events located within his community. He is a member of the Luce County Sheriff’s Department Auxiliary and assists local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services during emergent and planned events.
Officer Sherbrook is a valuable asset to the facility. His positive attitude, calm demeanor, and professionalism make him the best candidate for the 2025 Newberry Correctional Facility Officer of the Year.
