Gloria Caswell, director of the Luce County Animal Shelter, announced that positive things have been happening at the shelter in recent months.

Caswell appreciated a Nicolet Bank-sponsored a donation event for the shelter that ran from January 17 – February 17.

Shelter volunteer Angie Welty took pictures of adoptable animals and presented the photos at the bank, where staff made a display and set up a table for donations. At the end of the event, the held a drawing for first price (a pet adoption fee covered by the bank) and second prize (a gift basket).

Several of the prize items were donated by Snyder’s Drug Store.

In other news, Welty’s pet images were printed and put on display at Mac’s Market, where shoppers can see pictures of animals that are available for adoption. Welty’s husband, Mike, installed the display.

Caswell reported that the shelter has adopted out two adult cats, seven kittens, and one dog so far this year. Another adult cat and a couple kittens are pending adoption.

At the same time Luce County Pet Pals began offering a voucher to the first 10 people that adopted an adult cat this year. The $50 voucher is for future vet care needs.

“We are so thankful for all of this support,” Caswell said.
