JP Pizza, a new business running in conjunction with JP Memorial Golf Course in Germfask, offers a wide variety of pizza options and even a 15-mile radius delivery service.

Some might have seen the giant pizza float in the Curtis Independence Day parade last year. That was JP Pizza, and their float took first place.

Owned and operated by Scott and Holly Pemberton, the pizza shop officially opened its doors to costumers on November 13 of last year.

The Pembertons also own the golf course that was opened for the first time last year and is named in honor of Scott’s late father, James Pemberton.

“It’s in memory of my father, who died of cancer,” said Scott Pemberton. “He was a good golfer, and that is why I decided to build the golf course.

He started building the golf course in 2016 and officially opened to golfers last summer. “It takes a while to get things growing and to mature, especially the greens,” he said.

There are no set hours for the golf course though Scott Pemberton stated that he keeps it open from daylight until dark. The golf course is a short course and he is planning to add an additional nine holes making the course 18 holes. “It is a good course for beginners and for people to learn on,” Scott Pemberton said.

To generate income in the winter while the golf course is closed, the couple decided to open their pizza business. In addition to a wide menu of pizza options, they also serve subs, chicken wings, soups and other snacks and an assortment of soda pop.

JP pizza also offers delivery service to customers living in a 15-mile radius. He noted that he has delivered to Seney, Blaney Park and to U.S. 2 on H-33. “It depends on how busy we end up getting—I’m sure in the summer it will pick up with all the cabins and resorts, it might get too busy and can’t keep up.”

Both Scott and Holly relocated to the U.P. from Lower Michigan to live near Holly’s father. They have now lived in the area for 24 years.

JP Memorial Golf Course and JP Pizza is located in Germfask at 602 Ackley Road and is open daily except Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
