Memorial Day, the day to remember those who died in military service to the United States is Monday, May 25. The American Legion Posts of Newberry, Engadine and Hulbert have several programs scheduled to honor the fallen.
Newberry
The Hugh Allan McInnes American Legion Post 74 of Newberry will hold their annual Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 25.
The service in front of the VFW memorial at Tahquamenon Area Schools starts at 9 a.m. After a short program there, the Post 74 Color Guard will proceed to Forest Home Cemetery where the main portion of the event will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The M.C. for the program is Legionnaire Bill Inman. Prayers will be offered by Pastor Jonathan Michael of the First Baptist Church of Newberry. The speaker of the day is Pastor Paul Williams of Northstar Baptist Church. Music will be provided by the Northstar Choir.
There will also be readings by Newberry High School students. Newberry historian Sterling McGinn will give final roll call of Luce County’s fallen.
Also taking place will be the decoration of the graves, a rifle volley salute and Taps.
In case of inclement weather, the program will take place in the James Lone Hall at the American Legion Post.
McMillan
The Newberry ceremony will be repeated at 10:45 a.m. at the Columbus Township Cemetery in McMillan.
In case of inclement weather, the program will take place inside the Columbus Township Hall.
Curtis
The Feneley-McNeil-Nesbit American Legion Post 290 of Engadine will hold a ceremony at 9 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Curtis on Monday, May 25.
Engadine
Garfield Township Fire Department and Auxiliary will hold a Firefighter Memorial Service at 9 a.m. on May 25 at the Garfield Cemetery in Engadine. Refreshments will follow at the Garfield Township Hall.
The Feneley-McNeil-Nesbit American Legion Post 290 of Engadine will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Mill Pond Park in Engadine.
Hulbert-Paradise
The Barrus-McCulligh-Stewart American Legion Post 393 of Hulbert will hold an honor guard service at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery in Paradise. A mass will follow at 10:30 a.m.
Post 393 will also hold services at Strongs Cemetery at 11 a.m. and the Hulbert Cemetery at 12 p.m.
