The Annual Historic Photo Show is returning for Independence Day in Newberry and will take place in the basement of the old community building on the corner of Newberry and East Truman Avenue.
The display will be held on the night of July 3, 2026, from 6 – 8 p.m. The display can also be viewed after the Newberry July Fourth parade until 2 p.m. on July 4.
Many amazing new and old photos will be displayed at the event. The exhibit mostly depicts the very early days of the Newberry community. As usual, there are many photos of other nearby towns.
There will also be a special display commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1926 Newberry High School State Championship Basketball Team and photos representing “Kid’s Creek”, when the Teaspoon Creek was reserved for youth anglers.
The event was first held in 2003 by Jim Dwyer. Since 2005, when Dwyer met Newberry resident and historian Sterling McGinn, the show has been held every year except for two years during the Covid pandemic.
McGinn has been the “lone arranger” in recent years, and Dwyer has been in a secondary role.
The event is sponsored by the Tahquamenon Education Foundation. There is no cost to attend, though donations are accepted for the Tahquamenon Education Foundation.
