The Newberry community has lost a well-known resident and former funeral director.
Charles B. “Chuck” Beaulieu III died in Newberry on Thursday, May 11 at the age of 85.
Beaulieu belonged to a pioneer Luce County family that settled here in 1888. He was also the third-generation owner and director of Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry, which was established in 1908 by his grandfather, Charles B Beaulieu. Beaulieu’s son, Chris, now operates the funeral home.
He was born in Newberry to Charles “Bud” and Frances Beaulieu and graduated from Newberry High School in 1955. Following graduation, he studied at St. Norbert College and was a 1959 graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Before Beaulieu received his degree in mortuary science, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving until his honorable discharge.
He married Barbara Middleton in 1961 and the couple had four children: Michael, John, Chris and Anne.
Beaulieu was a community minded individual who belonged to the Newberry Kiwanis Club and Newberry Elks Lodge. After 50 years of continuous membership in the American Legion, the Newberry Post awarded him with an honorary life membership in March of 2018. He was also a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.
