The Hugh Allan McInnes American Legion Post 74 of Newberry will hold their 22nd Annual Community Buck Pole on Saturday, November 15, the opening day of whitetail deer firearm season.

Beginning at 8 a.m., hunters can bring their bucks to be hung on the pole in the front lawn of the Legion throughout the day. The buck pole will close at 7 p.m. that evening.

There is no pre-registration or fee necessary to hang a deer.

Special categories will be awarded including first deer on the pole, youngest hunter, largest rack, heaviest deer, and others.

Cash prizes and items will be awarded for the categories. The money and items were contributed by local businesses, organizations and individuals. “The community has been very supportive, and we actually have new donors,” said Leo
Saint Germaine, Post 74 commander.

There will also be a meal served from 5 – 8 p.m.; all are welcome. For $10, the meal includes chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, a dinner roll and dessert. Anyone who hangs a deer on the pole that day will eat for free.
Prizes will be awarded following the close of the buck pole.

The members of the American Legion encourage hunters to bring in their deer and participate in this event.
